Sigh Styles for SunStar's Concept: Grunge Throwback

I was tasked again to do a photo shoot for Sunstar newspaper fashion spread on GRUNGE Fashion.  It was officially published on October 18, 2013.

The next 5 pictures made it on print.

'The most important event in 1990s fashion was the rise of Grunge fashion in 1992. Grunge fashion was influenced by grunge music, which achieved mainstream popularity in 1992, due to the mainstream success of Nirvana and their hit single Smells Like Teen Spirit. The grunge style resulted in a decline in bright colours, and was dominated by plaid flannel shirts, stonewashed blue jeans, and dark colours like maroon, forest green, indigo, and brown. White and black were also popular colours in grunge style. It was considered the most depressing, angst filled style.

Grunge fashion popularized Doc Martens style shoes and boots, and high-top sneakers in red, indigo, forest green, and black (such as Chuck Taylor All-Stars). It emphasized long hair, which most teen and pre-teen girls already had, and which a few teen and pre-teen boys adopted. Grunge fashion was a unisex phenomenon. Although the grunge look was considered "anti-fashion", the fashion industry made it a distinct fashion style by selling plaid items like hooded sweatshirts, sweatshirt vests, long sleeved t-shirts and shorts. Grunge fashion remained popular through 1994. via the wikipedia
Though flannel plaid shirts remained popular through 1997, fashion started to move away from many of the other plaid styles in 1994. Waffle-patterns became popular on sweatshirts and polo shirts with colours such as white, beige and red, and remained popular until 1995. Olive green t-shirts, sweatshirts and dress shirts were all the rage in 1994 and 1995. Olive green remained more or less popular through 1998. Grey also became popular, and Oatmeal and wheat started to become popular with girls and women. Bowling shirts became popular, and remained more or less popular for the remainder of the 1990s. In the fall of 1994, bell-bottom jeans were replaced with wide-leg jeans. White denim became fashionable among guys as well as girls.' via the wikipedia
“Grunge is nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money,”[1] the designer Jean Paul Gaultier toldVogue in 1993, the year fashion co-opted the look. It had grown out of the raw, messy scene surrounding the raw, messy sound—produced by a bedraggled pack of flannel-clad Pacific Northwest dropouts—that was suddenly the talk of the fashion establishment. via

Sigh Styles for SunStar's Concept: MAKING THE BRAID

I was tasked again by SunStar to do another photo shoot, this time on different hair braid styles.  And definitely I said YES. I had no problem as to who will be my muse as I already had prior talks with one of the daughter's of my mom's friend.  Her name is MARY GRACE and she's really prepared for modeling, with that ideal statuesque, with long sleek hair, pristine white skin, lean yet chic figure and that pretty face. And she's another add-on to Sigh Style's list of break-out talents.

I prepared 8 hair braid styles and 3 hair stylists for this shoot. We completed the photo shoot in 4 hours.
Only 5 hair braid styles were featured in SunStar's August 16, 2013 issue in Shopping Bag spread.

4. SEMI-PUNK BRAID (I just named this)

As I said, among the 8 hair braid styles, only the first 5 styles were featured.
The photos below are the shots that made it on print.

Photography, Fashion Styling and Make-up by Yours truly for SIGH STYLES.
A one-man show right? :)
This is my first make-up project and I'm quite satisfied with my output.  I really intended to have a light make-up look so that the face will not over-power the hair.

All clothes worn by the model are from CHIC VINTAGE.
